Barun Sobti

Barun Sobti[1] is an Indian actor. He is best known for his role of Arnav Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon and Nikhil Nair in Asur.

Early life and career

Sobti was born and brought up in Delhi, India. He attended school at St. Mark's School in New Delhi. Before entering the entertainment industry, he worked as an operation manager at Jindal Telecom for 7 years.

Career

Sobti made his acting debut in 2009 as Swayam Khurana in Star Plus's Shraddha. He later did a cameo role in the medical show Dill Mill Gayye as Dr Raj, a medical intern with drug addiction.

In 2010, Sobti starred as Shravan Jaiswal in Sony TV's Baat Hamari Pakki Hai.

Sobti rose to prominence in 2011 as Arnav Singh Raizada, a business tycoon in Star Plus's Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. In 2017, he portrayed Advay Singh Raizada, aka Dev Kashyap, in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3, the third installment in the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doom series.

Sobti made his film debut in 2014 with the Romantic comedy Main Aur Mr Riight. Sobti's second feature film was Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2017), directed by Milind Dhaimade, which premiered at festivals including BFI London Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, he starred in the thriller-drama short film Derma.[2][3] It premiered on Voot. The same year, he appeared in a Sports drama film, 22 Yards.

Sobti started appearing digitally on Tanhaiyan in 2017. He later starred in ALTBalaji's The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family in 2018 as Samar Ranaut alongside Kay Kay Menon.[citation needed]

In 2020, he appeared in Voot's original mystery crime thriller show Asur as Nikhil Nair. Later that year, he appeared in the MX Player show The Missing Stone. He then played the role of Inspector Yusuf Qureshi in Eros Now original movie Halahal (2020). It was written, produced by Zeishan Quadri and directed by Randeep Jha.[citation needed]

He also played a cameo role in Srijit Mukherji's Zee 5 web series Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke. In 2023, he returned as Nikhil Nair for the second season of Asur. He also starred in the Amazon Mini TV series Badtameez Dil. Later he starred in Netflix's critically acclaimed series Kohrra. His performance as Garundi was well appreciated by the critics, film fraternity and the public.[citation needed]

Personal life

Barun Sobti married his high school sweetheart, Pashmeen Manchanda, on 12 December 2010, in a private ceremony in a Gurudwara. In June 2019, the couple welcomed their daughter, Sifat. In April 2023, the couple again became parents and welcomed their baby boy, Meer.[2]
