Biography

Catherine Birgersdotter was the daughter of the Swedish regent Birger Magnusson (Birger Jarl) and Princess Ingeborg Eriksdotter of Sweden. Her older brother Valdemar Birgersson was King of Sweden from 1250 to 1275. On 17 October 1259, Catherine married Siegfried I, Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst(c. 1230 – 1298) regent the Principality of Anhalt and a member of the House of Ascania.[2][3][failed verification]
