Bilateral relations
Foreign relations exist between Austria and Finland . Austria recognised Finland on 13 January 1918.[1] Both countries established diplomatic relations on 19 July 1918.[2] Austria has an embassy in Helsinki [3] and 6 honorary consulates (in Kajaani , Ristiina , Oulu, Tampere , Turku and Vaasa ).[4] Finland has an embassy in Vienna and 8 honorary consulates (in Burgenland , Carinthia , Lower Austria , Upper Austria , Salzburg , Styria , Tyrol , and Vorarlberg ).[5] Both countries are full members of the European Union and of the Council of Europe .[6] The two countries became members of the European Union in 1995.[7]
Herbert Pichler is the current ambassador of Austria to Finland.[8] [9] Nina Vaskunlahti is the current ambassador of Finland to Austria since September 2023.[10]
