Since the early 2010s, Oleg has been training in Japan.[4] In 2017, he joined the Bushiroad Club (now Team New Japan).[5]
In 2020, Oleg won the gold medal at the Kazakhstani Wrestling Championships in the 125 kg category.[6] In the same category, he won the gold medal at the 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships.[7][8] Oleg finished in fifth-place at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships.[9][10] In October 2022, he retired from amateur wrestling when he signed a contract with the Japanese professional wrestling promotion New Japan Pro-Wrestling.[11]
Professional wrestling career
On October 10, 2022, at Declaration of Power, Yuji Nagata introduced Oleg as a future NJPW wrestler. Oleg, in turn, expressed a desire to become as "strong and famous as possible", and cited The Rock and Brock Lesnar as role models.[5] Oleg's first in-ring match took place on January 4, 2023, at Wrestle Kingdom 17, where he had a three-minute exhibition match against Ryohei Oiwa in the pre-show. The match ended in a draw.[12][13] He made his full in-ring debut on April 2, at night two of Road To Sakura Genesis, where he, Ryusuke Taguchi, Shota Umino lost to TMDK (Zack Sabre Jr., Robbie Eagles, and Kosei Fujita).[14][15] On May 28, at day 12 of the 2023 Best of the Super Juniors, Oleg has his first win when he teamed up with Togi Makabe to defeat Yuto Nakashima and Oskar Leube.[16]
Although New Japan occasionally references Oleg as "Oleg Boltin",[7] several promotional graphics with Oleg has his in-ring name written as "Boltin Oleg".[3]
