On January 6, 2008, Servant Air Flight 109 crashed just short of Kodiak Airport shortly after takeoff, en route to Homer, Alaska. Of the 9 passengers and the pilot aboard the Piper Navajo Chieftain, there were 4 survivors. According to the NTSB, the failure of the nose baggage door latching mechanism resulted in an inadvertent opening of the nose baggage door in flight. Contributing to the accident was the lack of information and guidance available to the operator and pilot regarding procedures to follow should a baggage door open in flight and cause an inadvertent aerodynamic stall.[5][6]
