Untitled Downton Abbey: A New Era sequel

Downton Abbey 3 is an upcoming historical drama film, the sequel to the 2022 film Downton Abbey: A New Era, and the third and final film in the Downton Abbey franchise. The film was directed by Simon Curtis and written by Julian Fellowes, the creator and writer of the television series of the same name. Much of the original franchise's cast, which also appeared in the previous two films, will return, with Paul Giamatti and Dominic West reprising their roles as Harold Levinson from the TV series and Guy Dexter from the second film, respectively, and Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale and Arty Froushan joining the cast.

The film is scheduled to be released on 12 September 2025, by Focus Features in the United States and Universal Pictures in the rest of the world.

In March 2024, Imelda Staunton, who portrays Maud, confirmed that a third and final film in the Downton Abbey franchise was being planned, with the main cast returning.[1] In May, Paul Giamatti and Dominic West were announced to be reprising their roles as Harold Levinson and Guy Dexter respectively, alongside Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan in undisclosed roles.[2]

Filming

Principal photography began on 13 May 2024 and wrapped in August.[2]

Release

The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 12 September 2025.[3][4]
